City Council Meeting Roundup

On Tuesday, January 13th, the Normandy Park City Council held its regular monthly meeting. Below is a summary of key actions and discussions.

Oath of Office
Councilmembers Eric Zimmerman, Susan West, and Mike Bishoff were sworn in for their four-year terms. We were honored to have Judge Leone administer the oath of office.

Appointment of Mayor and Deputy Mayor
Every two years, in even-numbered years, the City Council selects the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The Council reappointed Eric Zimmerman as Mayor and Sue-Ann Hohimer as Deputy Mayor.

Petition for Adjustment of the City Boundaries
Along the southern boundary of Normandy Park, two parcels owned by the City of Des Moines currently lie within Normandy Park’s city limits. The City of Des Moines has petitioned the City Council to consider a boundary adjustment to place these parcels within Des Moines’ jurisdiction. After discussion, the City Council directed staff to gather additional information and report back at the February meeting.

Appointment to the Arts Commission
The City Council appointed Lisa Browdy to the Arts Commission.

Approval of the City’s 2026 Legislative Agenda
The City Council approved the 2026 Legislative Agenda, which focuses on public safety, homelessness prevention and reversal, local road safety, environmental enhancement, and support for local government revenue.

Request for Direction on Proposed Parking Lot Improvements at Marvista Park
The City will be refurbishing Marvista Park in 2026, and the City Council explored the possibility of adding additional parking. After reviewing several options, the Council decided to keep the existing parking lot design to avoid impacting any trees.

Resolution No. 1030 – 2026 City of Normandy Park Fee Schedule
The City Council adopted Resolution No. 1030, approving the 2026 fee schedule.

Assignment of Regional and City Council Committees
As part of January’s organizational efforts, the City Council reviewed and appointed Councilmembers to its Regional and City Council Committees. Regional committees are various groups that focus on topics affecting Normandy Park residents. In addition, the City Council appoints members to its own Council Committees, which consist of three Councilmembers who assist in the policymaking process. These committees study issues in greater depth and develop recommendations for consideration by the full City Council. They do not take binding action on behalf of the City.

For more details on these items, you can watch the full meeting recording.

City Manager Report – February 6, 2026

The Annual Citizen Satisfaction Survey is Live! It is that time of year! Time for the Third Annual Citizen Satisfaction Survey. The City Council and staff are committed to delivering high-quality services to our community. To better understand how we’re doing and where we can improve, the City launched the annual Citizen Satisfaction Survey in 2024. By taking part, you help us learn what matters most to you and where we should focus our efforts. Your feedback truly guides our work, and your voice matters! As in previous years, the survey asks about your satisfaction with public safety, parks, public works, community development, and City communication. There’s also space to share any additional thoughts or ideas you may have. Once the survey closes, we’ll publish a full report on the results so residents can see what we heard and how we plan to respond.
