City Council Meeting Roundup
On Tuesday, June 10th, the City Council held its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights to help keep you informed.
- Police Department surplused three vehicles – The Department has three vehicles that are either outdated, not worth repairing, or no longer needed for current operations. Now that this has been approved, they will be sold at either auction, to other municipal agencies, or Systems for Public Safety. Proceeds from the sale will be reinvested in the Equipment Replacement Fund.
- Renewal of the Public Defender Contract – Our contract for Public Defender services was renewed. The approved contract stipulates a flat fee of $550 per case, representing a $50 increase per case from the previous extension.
- Resolution adopting the Six-year TIP – Under the requirements of RCW 35.77.010, the city shall prepare and adopt a transportation improvement program (TIP) for the ensuing six calendar years. The TIP is a short-range planning document that outlines priority transportation projects and identifies federal and state grant funds that may be used to fund said projects. Now that the TIP has been approved, the city will begin applying for grants to support these projects. It should be noted that the TIP is a “plan” and can be modified if needed.
- Renewal of the Interlocal Agreement with WRIA 9 – The City renewed its Interlocal Agreement with the Green River, Duwamish River, and Central Puget Sound Watersheds within the geographic planning area of Water Resource Inventory 9 or WRIA9. This agreement supports Normandy Park’s commitment to protecting and restoring the ecological health of the Puget Sound Watershed as we mitigate flood hazards, enhance floodplain management, improve surface and groundwater quality, and protect salmon habitat.
- Arts Commission Appointment – Resident Dina Skeels was appointed to serve on the Arts Commission.
- Review of the 2025 Citizen Satisfaction Survey – The annual survey is now closed, and it’s time to analyze the results. The City Council reviewed the raw data, and the next step is to develop a more detailed report that will include an action plan. The raw data can be found in the June 10th agenda packet, and the final report is expected to be completed in July.

On Tuesday, July 8th, the City Council held its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights to help keep you informed. South Link Connections Mobility Project King County Metro made a presentation on its South Link Connections Project. As Link light rail expands farther south with new stations, the South Link Connections project aims to improve transportation options for communities in South King County. The City Council heard about Metro’s efforts to engage with residents to improve the network, and how this work continues. Let your voice be heard and take the network survey. The deadline is August 31st.
City Manager Report – July 2, 2025
Our summer concert series begins this Sunday! From July through August 2025, Normandy Park’s Parks & Recreation department and the Arts Commission are hosting their beloved Music in the Park concert series at Marvista Park. These free, family-friendly events take place every Sunday at 5:00 PM, offering live music and community connection in a relaxed outdoor setting.

4th of July Fireworks in Normandy Park
As we prepare to celebrate the 4th of July, the City of Normandy Park would like to remind residents of the local fireworks rules. Our goal is to ensure everyone has a fun, festive, and most importantly, a safe holiday. Fireworks are permitted within city limits, but their use is regulated. Please review and follow the rules below: Fireworks may be discharged within city limits from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on July 3rd and from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on July 4th. Fireworks must be “consumer fireworks” as defined by State Law. You must be on private property with the permission of the property owner. It is unlawful to discharge any fireworks on any public property. Public property includes parks, public open spaces, public playgrounds, public streets, public roads, and other publicly owned properties in Normandy Park.
