Working Together for Safer Streets: Normandy Park’s Local Road Safety Plan
The City of Normandy Park is taking an important step toward making our roads safer for everyone. As part of the City Council’s 2025 Goals, we’re developing a Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) to improve safety along our major, federally classified roadways. I want to share what this plan is all about—and how it will benefit our community.
What Is a Local Road Safety Plan?
A Local Road Safety Plan, or LRSP, is a strategic roadmap that cities use to identify safety issues and take action to reduce serious crashes and save lives. Each LRSP is unique, designed specifically for the community it serves, using local data and best practices in traffic safety. The plan examines where accidents occur or are likely to happen, and what we can do to prevent them. It helps us move away from one-size-fits-all solutions and instead focuses on what will truly make a difference for Normandy Park.
Why Is This Important for Normandy Park?
Your safety is our top priority. Every year, the City receives requests for a wide variety of traffic improvements. Before proceeding with these improvements, we want to make sure they’re done in a way that’s effective and prioritized based on real needs. That’s where the LRSP comes in. It helps us:
- Pinpoint high-risk areas.
- Identify patterns or unsafe behaviors on our roads.
- Create targeted solutions like traffic calming, improved signage, enhanced lighting, and safer pedestrian crossings.
- Prioritize safety improvements based on need, impact, and budget.
This thoughtful approach enables us to utilize our resources more efficiently and achieve noticeable improvements more quickly.
What Happens Next?
Once complete, the high-priority projects from the LRSP will be integrated into our Transportation Improvement Plan, which will guide how we design and fund future road safety projects across the city. Whether you’re walking your dog, riding your bike, driving to work, or helping your kids get to school safely, this plan is designed with you in mind.
We’ll continue to share updates as the plan moves forward. Together, we can make Normandy Park’s streets safer, more accessible, and more welcoming for everyone.
If you have any questions about this or any other city matters, feel free to reach out to me at aarrington@normandyparkwa.gov. Have a great week!

Honoring our Heroes: Normandy Park’s Blue Star Memorial By-Way. As we prepare to observe Memorial Day this weekend, I’d like to highlight a meaningful tribute in our community: the Blue Star Memorial By-Way in Normandy Park. The Blue Star Program pays tribute to all men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces. We are proud to be home to one of these memorials in Normandy Park.
