City Launches YouTube Channel

The City of Normandy Park is excited to be launching its own YouTube channel, which will add to the City’s ongoing effort to have practical communications tools available for residents. The City Council values a transparent relationship with the public, and this means giving you the positive, not-so-great, and bad news. I hope this effort is not only informing but builds the level of trust between City Hall and you, the citizen. We want communication to be two-way so we can hear your voice as well. Your involvement will help shape and direct Normandy Park’s future. With this goal in mind, we work hard to “spread the word” about what is going on within the City, and the new YouTube channel will help accomplish this work.

If you visit the City’s YouTube channel today, you will see the first Council Roundup video. This will be a new monthly informational series intended to give you a summary of what happened at the previous City Council meeting. We know you don’t always have time to sit through a long Council meeting, but still want to know what is happening in your City. This month’s video is 11 minutes long and gives you a rundown of the action and essential discussion of the Council. We are still committed to our other communication efforts, including the quarterly City Scene publication, an informative website, weekly email updates, highlights of important tasks and information on social media, and Channel 21 (available to Comcast customers).

To visit the City’s YouTube Channel, click here. Please subscribe and revisit the channel often to see the growing video content. Future videos will include City Council and staff interviews, Council Corner, event highlights, informational videos, and more! If you have any suggestions for videos or items you would like to know more about, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Civic Center Update

At its August 10th meeting, the City Council received an update on the proposed Civic Center Project. In summary, the City Council is committed to constructing a new facility that will increase the size of the City Hall, Police Station, and Recreation Center. At this point, we are working to finalize and maximize the amount of square footage that can be constructed within the designated construction budget of $13 million. The Council discussed the latest cost estimate and determined additional work is needed to accomplish the City’s goal.

An essential part of the designated budget referenced above will be community contributions to fund and support the project. Because of its importance, the Council has created a Council Committee that will begin planning and implementing a capital campaign which will make this critical element of the project a reality. Public input will be needed as we move forward with this project, so please look out for future updates.

Construction Activity Update

Construction activity is nearing completion. Starting next week, the following areas will be repaired and overlaid:

  • 12th Place from Sylvester Road to 170th Street
  • 170th Street from 12th Place to 22nd Avenue

Work is scheduled to be complete the week of August 23rd. Expect full road closures and delays in the area. Contractors are responsible for notifying residents if driveway access becomes limited.  Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact Stormwater Coordinator Jessie Medrow at (206) 248-8256 or email publicworks@normandyparkwa.gov.

Music in the Park this Sunday

The Normandy Park Arts Commission is proud to present another Music in the Park Event. The next event is scheduled for Sunday, August 15th, from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm at Marvista Park. This concert will feature The W Lovers. Don’t forget your lawn chair or blanket. We hope to see you there.
