Represent Normandy Park in Olympia

Many decisions that shape daily life in Normandy Park are made at the state level, not at City Hall. State laws affect things like public safety, transportation funding, housing rules, shoreline protections, and environmental regulations. Your City Council regularly communicates with the Washington State Legislature to protect local interests, but lawmakers pay closest attention to the people in their districts, like you. In fact, a few local voices often carry more weight than a large organization speaking from outside the community. There are still three weeks in the current legislative session, so I wanted to encourage you to get involved.

Normandy Park is in Legislative District 33, and is represented by Senator Tina Orwall, Representative Mia Gregerson, and Representative Edwin Obras. Our elected officials appreciate feedback from residents before making decisions, and direct communication remains the most effective way to be heard. Contact information for our representatives can be found using this link.

Advocacy does not have to be complicated. A short email, letter, or phone call can make a real impact. When reaching out, include your name and the fact that you live in Normandy Park, briefly describe the issue or bill, explain why it matters to you personally, and clearly state what action you would like them to take. Personal stories are especially effective because they help lawmakers understand how policies affect real people in their community.

I would also suggest you attend the town halls and community meetings sometimes held by our representatives. Attending these meetings allows residents to ask questions, share concerns, and hear directly about the issues being considered. Even a brief comment can help shape how an issue is understood.

Local voices are strongest when the community works together. I encourage you to share your perspectives on state issues with the City Council and stay informed about the City’s legislative priorities. When both the City and residents communicate a consistent message, it increases our influence in Olympia.

Your participation in government truly matters. Even one thoughtful message can make a difference and help keep our community a great place to live, work, and play.

If you have any questions about this or other City topics, please email me at aarrington@normandyparkwa.gov. Have a great week!

“Your participation in government truly matters…”

Weekly Report – February 27, 2026

Our Annual Citizen Satisfaction Survey is now open, and I’d like to share a brief snapshot of what we’re hearing so far. Residents continue to express strong satisfaction with our Police and Parks services, reflecting the dedication of the people who serve our community every day. Based on the current survey, traffic enforcement, particularly speeding, is an area where many residents would like to see additional focus. Recreation programs remain well-regarded overall, and residents have shared interest in expanding the range of programs and opportunities offered by the City. We are also carefully reviewing feedback about opportunities for residents to engage with the City and maintaining confidence in how public funds are managed.
