City Council Meeting Roundup
On Tuesday, March 10th, the Normandy Park City Council held its regular monthly meeting. Below is a summary of key discussions and approved actions.
Swearing-In Ceremony for Officers Claudia DiJulio and Bladimir Tapia Pascasio
Please join the City in welcoming our two newest Police Officers, Claudia DiJulio and Bladimir Tapia Pascasio. We are pleased to have them join our Police Department and serve the Normandy Park community.
City Boundary Adjustment
Along the southern boundary of Normandy Park, two parcels owned by the City of Des Moines currently lie within Normandy Park’s city limits. The City of Des Moines petitioned the City Council to consider a boundary adjustment to place these parcels within Des Moines’ jurisdiction. After discussion, the City Council approved the adjustment to align the parcels with Des Moines.
Resolution No. 1031: Support for Affordable Housing in South King County
The City Council approved Resolution No. 1031, allocating $5,636 to the South King County Housing and Homelessness Partnership (SKHHP) to support affordable housing projects in South King County.
Normandy Park is a member of SKHHP, a regional partnership focused on increasing housing stability and producing and preserving quality affordable housing. Other member jurisdictions include Auburn, Burien, Covington, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Maple Valley, Renton, SeaTac, Tukwila, and King County.
In 2021, the City entered into an interlocal agreement with SKHHP to pool certain sales tax revenues with the partner jurisdictions to support the SKHHP Housing Capital Fund, which helps finance affordable housing projects throughout the region. This resolution approved this action.
Ordinance No. 1086: Transportation Benefit District Update
The City Council adopted Ordinance No. 1086, amending Chapter 10.64 of the Normandy Park Municipal Code relating to the Transportation Benefit District (TBD).
The City created the TBD in 2013 to help fund street maintenance through a vehicle license fee. The updated ordinance aligns the City’s code with current state law (RCW 82.80.140) and allows the City Council to adjust the fee by resolution in the future if needed.
Agreement with the Normandy Park Community Club for America 250 Celebration
To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States, the City is partnering with the Normandy Park Community Club (NPCC) to enhance the 4th of July celebration in Normandy Park by adding a July 3rd celebration. The approved agreement establishes the terms of the partnership and sets a maximum City contribution for the event. The plan is to have professional fireworks and entertainment on July 3rd, before the traditional festivities on July 4th. More details will be shared as the event approaches.
Memorandum of Understanding with the Normandy Park Farmers Market
The Normandy Park Farmers Market will be moving to Marvista Park for the 2026 season. The approved Memorandum of Understanding outlines the roles and responsibilities of both the City and the Market to support a successful season in the new location.
