Important Presentations & Public Hearing Scheduled for the June 9th City Council Meeting
Several important topics that could shape the future of Normandy Park will be discussed at the June 9th City Council meeting, including a public hearing and three major presentations. Residents are encouraged to attend, learn more, and share their feedback.
Public Hearing
Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program – Each year, pursuant to RCW 35.77.010, the City updates its six-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP is a planning document that identifies priority transportation projects and potential state and federal grant funding opportunities. In addition to previously approved projects, staff will ask the City Council to include the proposed midblock pedestrian crossings on 1st Avenue identified in the recently completed Local Road Safety Plan.
Presentations
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP) Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) – Representatives from the Port of Seattle will provide a high-level overview of the recently completed Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport SAMP. To accommodate future growth, the airport wants to construct 31 projects, including a new terminal. As you can imagine, the EIS is a lengthy and technical document, which is why this presentation is so important. If interested, I encourage you to review the full document.
City Councilmembers will have an opportunity to ask questions after the presentation, and they want those questions to reflect the community’s interests. If you have a specific question or comment you think should be asked, please submit to Interim City Clerk Deana Dean at ddean@normandyparkwa.gov or 206.248.8248.
Stormwater Rate Study – The City manages stormwater and surface water systems under the requirements of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit. To support this work, the City operates a stormwater utility.
In 2022, the City Council adopted the 2023 Comprehensive Stormwater Plan, which included stormwater utility rates through 2026. A new rate study has now been completed and is recommending a new rate structure for 2027–2035 to maintain the long-term health and reliability of the system.
The study results, including the recommended rate adjustments, will be presented on June 9th, with City Council action anticipated later this summer.
SKHHP Work Plan and Budget – The South King Housing and Homelessness Partners (SKHHP) is a regional partnership between King County and nine South King County cities working together to increase access to affordable housing and preserve existing affordable housing options. Each year, SKHHP presents its annual work plan and budget to member cities for review and approval. Following the presentation, the City Council may consider taking action.
We hope to see you in person or online on Tuesday, June 9th, at 7:00 pm to learn more about each item.
If you have any questions about this or other City topics, please email me at aarrington@normandyparkwa.gov. Have a great week!
“Tune in on June 9th to learn more about these impactful topics…”
