Music in the Park

For this summer’s Music in Park, the Normandy Park Arts Commission has reached out to a rich range of communities for a series we hope you all will enjoy. The shows take place at Marvista Park every Sunday in July and August from 5-6:30 p.m., except for the jazz grand finale on August 24, which starts at 3 p.m.

We are lucky to host a performance of William Shakespeare’s whimsical, cross-dressing romp in the woods, As You Like It, presented by Wooden O. Be one of the first to see a show by the newly merged ACT Theatre and Seattle Shakespeare Company.

Local bilingual, bicultural theatre artist, Mimi Katano, makes her Seattle Shakespeare directorial debut with As You Like It! This production is sure to be the perfect outdoor summer escape! Katano is excited to bring this play to life, noting that “We could all use the Forest of Arden in which people at odds reconcile, people who are lost find themselves, and all love is celebrated.”

Join Rosalind, her cousin Celia, and comedic courtier Touchstone as they escape the dangers of her usurper uncle’s court and seek refuge in the Forest of Arden with her father’s band of exiles. Disguised as Ganymede, Rosalind discovers love in the safety of the forest with her suitor, Orlando. Love triumphs, in Shakespeare’s pastoral comedy, making for a perfect outing in the park.

Wooden O will be celebrating its 31st year of performing in various parks, bringing free, professional productions to its audiences. This summer’s Wooden O will surely bring to life the opportunity to enjoy family, friends, the great outdoors and live theatre!
