The City of Normandy Park is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Accounting Specialist to join our team.

This position plays a key functional role in the City’s day-to-day financial operations. The Accounting Specialist performs technical accounting and financial support work, including accounts payable and receivable processing, payroll support, reconciliation of accounts, maintenance of financial records, preparation of reports, and assistance with audits and budget tracking. The ideal candidate is highly organized, accurate, and experienced in accounting practices, with a strong understanding of financial systems and internal controls.

General Position Summary
Responsible for entering financial transactions into the City’s computerized accounting system. Is responsible for preparing payroll (bi-monthly) and accounts payable for the city including maintaining these records. Assists in the monthly and yearly reconciling and closing of the books, and is responsible for preparing journal entries and assisting in the preparation of financial statements. Performs other special projects and duties as required.
General Position Summary
- Prepare, maintain and reconcile payroll records through entering employee timesheets, generating and reviewing payroll reports, reconcile employee salary and benefits information, transmit and distribute checks and direct deposit check stubs.
- Prepare and enter invoices for payment, reviews invoices to ensure accuracy of amounts, and comparesinvoices against purchase orders and requisitions to ensure accuracy in billing for services.
- Enter and maintain various ledgers, journals, accounts and other accounting records, and assists in thepreparation of the City’s financial statements.
- Compile and organize information and data required to prepare expenditure and revenue reports.
- Analyze information and accounts for discrepancies and adherence to policy.
- Perform mathematical calculations quickly.
- Responsible for daily receipt reconciliation & check deposits.
- Prepares monthly billings and manages accounts receivable aging.
- Prepares MPD billings quarterly.
- Operate accounting software and efficiently and accurately enter, retrieve, and interpret data.
- Operate a personal computer, miscellaneous
Requires a Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field. A combination of equivalent education and experience may be substituted.
