Don’t forget to scoop up Pet Waste

This is the time of year when we start spending more time outside. We just wanted to remind you to be diligent in scooping up your pet waste.

Why is this so important? According to the Environmental Protection Agency, dog waste is one of the greatest threats to water quality. If dog duty is neglected, the harmful nutrients found in pet waste can infiltrate into the soil, where parasites can linger for up to several years. Or worse, waste is washed away into a storm drain. Once in a storm drain, waste is often left untreated. There is only one other stop after that: rivers, lakes, and Puget Sound.

There are many reasons to pick up after your pet, but the top two are: 1. Scooping protects our waterways; 2. You are improving the Normandy Park quality of life by being a great neighbor. Pet waste stations are found in our parks to help with this effort. The solution to poo-pollution starts with scooping.
