The Normandy Park Arts Commission Presents: Spring Into Art!
Celebrate spring with fun, free events at the Normandy Park Community Club (the Cove) presented by your Normandy Park Arts Commission. Light refreshments will be provided. Open to everyone and free to all!
April 30 – Enjoy various global teas for a tea tasting followed by a musical performance by student violinists, the Melodic String Duo. Virginia Wright, who owned and operated Phoenix Tea in Burien for ten years, will give a demonstration and talk on the different types of tea and how to make them. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste a variety of teas and ask questions during the event. Information will include an overview of the significant tea-growing regions of the world and the cultural traditions they use when producing and consuming tea. Attendees will also see some examples of traditional and contemporary artisan-made tea wares.
The Melodic String Duo comprises musicians Aiden and Claire, a dynamic high school string duet passionate about making music that connects with the community. Aiden is a junior cellist with seven years of experience. He’s performed with groups like the Maple Valley Youth Symphony and Tacoma Youth Symphony Association, and his original compositions have been brought to life by ensembles such as the Ravena String Orchestra and the Issaquah Philharmonic Orchestra. He recently had one of his works premiered by Seattle Symphony musicians through the 2024 Merriman-Ross Young Composers Workshop. Claire, a senior violinist with eight years of experience, brings energy and heart to every performance. She’s served as concertmaster for three orchestras and helped lead her ensemble to a district competition win. She has performed in over 30 concerts across a wide range of styles. Together, they aim to share their love of music with local audiences and make music more accessible, engaging, and meaningful for all.
