City Council Meeting Roundup

On Tuesday, January 14th, the City Council held its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights to help keep you informed.

  • The City Council heard from King County Metro on Phase 2 of its South Link Connections Mobility Project. As light rail extends south, King County Metro’s South Link Connections mobility project is working to improve public transportation. The City Council learned more about the project and the proposed changes, including new, altered, and removed routes. In addition to talking with the City Council, King County Metro also wants resident feedback. I encourage you to visit the South Links Connections web page to learn more and take the survey to make your voice heard.
  • Approval of an Ad Hoc Committee for long-term property acquisition of trails and beach access – The City Council officially established a committee to develop a program related to trail connectivity and low-bank beach access. This Committee will vet potential properties, recommend appropriate easement expenditures, and outline the outreach process (including adjacent property owners). The committee consists of three Councilmembers and two Park Commissioners. It should be noted that any acquisition will be voluntary.
  • Resident Lisa Alexander was appointed to the Normandy Park Arts Commission – The Normandy Park Arts Commission consists of seven members appointed for 3-year terms. This Commission represents the City’s interest in art matters and serves as a spokesperson group for the City. The City Council appointed Lisa Alexander to Position #3.
  • 2025 Fee Schedule Resolution No. 1014 – The City reviews all fees yearly to ensure all user charges are appropriate and reflect the full cost of providing the related service. The approved changes included amending specific permitting fees, a 4% increase to the preschool rates for the 2025-2026 school year, and a slight change in pet permitting.

If you want to learn more about these topics, I encourage you to watch the meeting recording.

Community Salmon Investigation Survey Results

The Community Salmon Investigation (CSI) for Highline has collected salmon data since 2010. Join them at The Cove on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, to learn about salmon and tire dust in local creeks. Visit the Miller-Walker salmon monitoring website for more information and annual updates. The doors open at 5:30 pm, and presentations start at 6:00 pm. We hope to see you at The Cove.

If you have any questions about this or other City topics, please email me at aarrington@normandyparkwa.gov. Have a great week!

City Manager Report – February 21, 2025

The City is looking for nominations for its Heritage Tree Program. As we prepare for our upcoming Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 26, 2025, the City wants to encourage residents to nominate significant trees for the City’s Heritage Tree Program. Trees are a vital asset to any community, and Normandy Park has embraced this value. Based on the 2018 Tree Canopy Survey from King Conservation District, Normandy Park has 740 acres, or 46%, of tree canopy. This is one of the highest percentages in King County. To celebrate, promote, preserve, and educate the public about this great asset, the city has established a Heritage Tree Program.
