City Council Meeting Roundup
On Tuesday, September 10th, the City Council held its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights to help keep you informed.
- A contract to support the Nature Trails Park Forest Restoration efforts was approved. The scope of this contract includes continuing to remove invasive species, installing native species, and mulching in Nature Trails Park. The cost for this work is not to exceed $12,000.
- The first reading of Ordinance No. 1067 amending Normandy Park’s Stormwater Utility Fees was tabled. The proposed ordinance would increase the Stormwater fees for 2025 and 2026. Staff recommended a 3% increase each year to support the stormwater work in the City. The City Council had additional questions and tabled this ordinance until September 24th.
- First Reading was held on Ordinance No. 1068 which would amend the penalties for violations of the Fireworks Code. When you violate the City’s fireworks code, you are subject to a misdemeanor. This proposed ordinance would change the penalties to a progressive scale, beginning with an infraction, with the goal of increasing enforcement in the future. The first offense would be a $250 fine, a second offense would be a $500 fine, and a third offense would be a misdemeanor. The second reading is scheduled for October 8th.
- First Reading was held on Ordinance No. 1069, which would exempt the City from obtaining Right-of-Way (ROW) permits. The proposed ordinance will add a new section to the City’s code to exempt City crews and contractors from ROW permit requirements. The second reading is scheduled for October 8th.
- Staff was given authorization to purchase security cameras for the Police Station and the Public Works Shop. The Police Department currently has outdated cameras, which need to be updated. Cameras are also needed at the Public Works Shop to increase our ability to safeguard our assets. Costs will not exceed $30,000 and will include a $1,500 annual monitoring fee.
I encourage you to watch the meeting recording to learn more about these and other topics.
