City Council Meeting Roundup

On Tuesday, April 11th, the City Council had its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights.

  • The City Council formally recognized the service of former Councilmember Michelle Sipes-Marvin.
  • An interlocal agreement with the Normandy Park Metropolitan Parks District (MPD) was approved.
  • A contract related to a sidewalk project on First Avenue was approved. This project mainly consists of the construction of approximately 850 linear feet of sidewalk improvements on 1st Avenue South between 176th Street SW and 174th Street South on the West side of the road.
  • A proclamation declaring April 29, 2023, as Arbor Day in Normandy Park was approved. Trees are a vital asset to any community, and Normandy Park has embraced this value. As a Tree City USA community, we must hold an Arbor Day Observance and approve an Arbor Day Proclamation. As a result, the city is preparing for an Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 29, 2023, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Marvista Park. This will be a fun and interactive event for the entire family.
  • The City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance related to Compost Procurement. In March 2022, Substitute House Bill 1799 was signed into Washington law. The primary goal of the law is to increase the diversion of organic materials going to landfills to reduce methane emissions from landfills. To comply with this new law, we are working to amend the code to have a Compost Procurement Policy. If adopted, the City will work to increase the utilization of compost. The second reading of this ordinance is scheduled for May 9th.
