Normandy Park Police Department Radio System Updated

The Puget Sound Emergency Radio Network (PSERN), which Normandy Park is a part of, reached a milestone on August 1st when the last group of radio users (including Normandy Park) transitioned from the previous analog system to the new digital system.

The most immediate benefit realized is that this new digital system fixed dead spots in radio coverage in Normandy Park.  This is much safer for the Officers and the community, as any inability to communicate jeopardizes the safety of all concerned.  This project began several years ago and was funded by a King County taxpayer-approved levy that built a new digital system to replace the older system that had reached the end of its lifespan.  As part of this project, radio towers were built and added, and all portable and vehicle radios were replaced, as well as equipment in the many dispatch centers that exist throughout King County. Thank you for your support of the PSERN system.

Traffic Enforcement in Normandy Park

The most common complaint the Normandy Park Police Department hears is about speeding vehicles.  The Police Department places an emphasis on traffic enforcement throughout Normandy Park to keep all our residents safe and to allow Normandy Park to continue to be a safe place to walk, run, and ride bicycles.

Since the start of the year through August 2nd, the Police Department has written 504 tickets, most of which have been for speeding or other accident-causing moving violations. The Police Department is fully staffed, so you should see an additional increase in visibility and traffic enforcement in the next six months.  In addition, we now have a fully trained motorcycle officer who will spend much of his time on traffic enforcement once staffing allows.  If there is an area of the City that you feel needs additional attention, please email Chief Yourkoski at dyourkoski@normandyparkwa.gov so we can add it to the ever-growing list of traffic complaint zones. Be safe out there!

Music (or should we say Play) in the Park this Sunday

On Sunday, August 6th, GreenStage will perform Shakespear’s classic “Romeo and Juliet.” Come to Marvista Park to check it out. Bring your favorite blanket and chair and head to the park from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm for some summer evening entertainment with the family. We’ll see you there!

If you have any questions, please get in touch with me at aarrington@normandyparkwa.gov. Have a great week!

From time to time, residents ask about temporary signs. I wanted to share some information about our regulations, things like what a temporary sign is, where your signs can and cannot be placed, and other regulations on signs per the City’s code. This will be a summary, so for all the rules, please see our Public Assistance Memo or contact the Community Development Department at 206.248.8260.

Demo day for the Walker and Sequoia Creek project is coming soon. The City Council approved a contract in September to clear all the structures off the property. A Cooperative Watershed Management grant from the King County Flood Control District funds this work. Once fully complete, this exciting project will benefit the environment and create a passive park for residents to enjoy.
