City Council Meeting Roundup

On Tuesday, February 14^th, the City Council had its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights.

•  The meeting started with the swearing-in of our newest City Council member Jack Lamanna. Jack has been a resident of Normandy Park for almost two years. He is interested in maintaining Normandy Park’s unique qualities while developing the city for the betterment of the entire community. He wants the voices of citizens and business owners to be sought out to help generate ideas to improve the quality of life and business success. The City welcomes Jack Lamanna to the City Council.
• Normandy Park’s Branding Guide was reviewed by the City Council. This guide was developed to strengthen the City’s identity, highlight the City’s uniqueness, generate community pride, and improve influence. It will guide staff in consistent, efficient, and effective communication with the public. Residents should keep an eye out for the new City logo. A big thank you to all the residents who helped and participated in the process!
• The City Council adopted a resolution that authorized the allocation of $2,755 to fund housing projects supported by the South King Housing and Homelessness Partnership (SKHHP). SKHHP was created in 2019 through an interlocal agreement between several city governments and King County to address housing needs in South King County. This funding comes from a recapture of a portion of the existing sales tax and does not raise the sales tax.
• Vacancies on four regional committees were filled. Regional committees are groups that focus on various areas impacting the citizens of Normandy Park. In many cases, the city has entered into an interlocal agreement that defines the committee’s scope. By participating in these committees, Councilmembers can advocate and support issues that are important to Normandy Park.
