Music (or should we say Play) in the Park this Sunday
On Sunday, July 23rd, the Burien Actors Theatre (BAT) will perform “Good Morning, Bill.” This family-friendly comedy is an adaptation that is set in 1989 Seattle and Mount Vernon. Come to Marvista Park to check it out. Bring your favorite blanket and chair and head to the park from 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm for some summer evening entertainment with the family. We’ll see you there!
Important Topic scheduled for the July 25th City Council Study Session
The City Council holds Study Sessions on the 4th Tuesday of the month. These meetings give the City Council and staff an opportunity to discuss upcoming business items in an informal setting.
Tuesday’s Study Session will start with a Joint Session of the City Council and Planning Commission for the purpose of discussing the periodic update (formerly called the update of the Comprehensive Plan). This is an important topic that will impact the future of Normandy Park, so I encourage you to attend. Some of the discussion topics will include:
- Introductions to the Periodic Update team and meeting focus.
- Why update the Comprehensive Plan, and what will an update need to address?
- What are the planning processes and steps including public involvement.
- Engagement, identifying important issues, and process success.
While public comment will not be taken at this meeting, there will be several other upcoming opportunities to be heard. Please join us Tuesday and learn more about the Periodic Update.
Taxpayer Transparency Tool
The King County Assessor has released the August 2023 primary election Taxpayer Transparency Tool. This is a website which provides each King County taxpayer an individualized accounting of where their property tax dollars go, and the estimated cost of any proposed property tax measure to be voted on. The tool can be found at http://localscape.spatialest.com/#kingcountyassessor/Tax.
International Public Market Feasibility Study
Are you looking for retail space? Or would like to visit an International Public Market? The Port of Seattle and King County are exploring the development of an International Public Market (IPM), a central space for food, retail, events and more in South King County. We want to hear what you want from a space like this. Please take the survey found at this link by July 31, 2023, to help shape the potential offerings of an International Public Market. Temporary Signs in Normandy Park
From time to time, residents ask about temporary signs. I wanted to share some information about our regulations, things like what a temporary sign is, where your signs can and cannot be placed, and other regulations on signs per the City’s code. City Manager Report – October 11, 2024
On Tuesday, October 8th, the City Council held its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights to help keep you informed. Three contracts were approved.
Contract renewal with SmartGov – The City renewed the contract with SmartGov to support the City’s online permitting system.
Contract with Placer AI – Placer AI is a location analytics company that collects geolocation data anonymously from mobile devices. This information will assist the City in developing city-specific analytics for any number of queries regarding customer behavior, commercial and business
City Manager Report – October 4, 2024
Demo day for the Walker and Sequoia Creek project is coming soon. The City Council approved a contract in September to clear all the structures off the property. A Cooperative Watershed Management grant from the King County Flood Control District funds this work. Once fully complete, this exciting project will benefit the environment and create a passive park for residents to enjoy.
