City Council Meeting Roundup
On Tuesday, May 14th, the City Council held its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights to help keep you informed.
Presentations
· Senator Karen Keiser came before the City Council to give an update on the 2024 Legislative Session.
Proclamations
· A proclamation was approved to declare the week of May 18-24th, 2024, as Safe Boating Week in Normandy Park
· A proclamation was approved to declare May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 12 – 18th, 2024, as National Police Week.
New Business Items
· Ordinance No. 1062 passed its first reading. Once approved, this ordinance will adopt the updated Parks, Recreation Open Space, and Trails (PROST) Plan, which will serve as our guide for future park improvements. If interested, I encourage you to review the plan, which details proposed improvements for our parks for the next 20 years. The second reading is scheduled for June 11th, and there will be a public hearing at this meeting if you would like to express your thoughts on the plan to the City Council.
· Ordinance No. 1064 was approved to adopt the revised Washington State Building Code Council 2021 Building Code edition.
· Resolution No. 1008 was adopted to write off a certain uncollectible account in the amount of $1,425.72.
· The contract for the 2024 Sidewalk and Storm Projects was approved. This project consists of 8 sites throughout the City and will replace approximately 1,200 linear feet of curb and gutter, 26 catch basins, 1,300 linear feet of conveyance pipe, and repair approximately 450 linear feet of sidewalk.
· Resolution No. 1011 amending the 2024 City of Normandy Park Fee Schedule was approved. With this amendment, late fees related to pet licenses were reduced, a small annual fee to help cover some additional preschool expenses was added, and the fees for our children’s summer camp classes were updated.
· Ordinance No. 1063 approving Budget Amendment No. 3 to the 2023-2024 Budget was adopted.
· Resident Kelly Steffen was reappointed to the Parks Commission.
· Ordinance No. 1065 passed its first reading. If approved, it will amend specific employee salary ranges. The second reading is scheduled for June 11th.

The City Council has expressed its desire to build a sports court at City Hall Park, and they want to hear from residents. Background
In early 2024, the City approved the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Plan (PROS Plan). This document establishes a 20-year plan to improve the City’s Park system. The number one ranked project was constructing a covered sports court at City Hall Park.

City Manager Report – November 15th, 2024
On Tuesday, November 12th, the City Council held its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights to help keep you informed. The Port of Seattle made a presentation on the Sustainable Airport Master Plan (SAMP). The SAMP is the blueprint for changes at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to meet future forecasted demand. The master plan process was completed in 2018 and identified 31 Near-Term Projects (NTPs) intended to serve 56 million annual passengers as well as flights and cargo activity at an optimal level of service.
