Weekly Report – October 22, 2021
City Manager Amy Arrington
The City of Normandy Park is committed to bringing you excellent service. We do that with an outstanding team in a variety of departments. To communicate all the services available to you, I want to start a new feature where I provide a monthly highlight of one city department. This month, we will highlight our largest department – the Police Department.
Normandy Park Police Department
We are fortunate to have a first-class police department that protects and serves the residents daily. The Normandy Park Police Department serves approximately 6,700 citizens and regularly patrols over 2.5 square miles. There are ten commissioned police officers, two reserve police officers, and one non-commissioned staff. The Normandy Park Police Department provides 24 hours a day, seven days a week patrol and emergency response service. In addition to these “standard” services, we also offer and participate in the following:
- Ability to obtain Concealed Pistol Permits
- Self Defense Classes
- Shop with a Cop Program for youth
- Special Olympics Torch Run
- Organized Blood Drives
- PAWS on Patrol
- Emergency Preparedness
- Neighborhood Watch
- Volunteering in the Community
We are also very proud of the many instances where the officers go above and beyond every day. Some recent examples of this effort come from Officer Erynn Mast and Officer Cody Stolz. Officer Mast recently responded to a call and didn’t hesitate to provide lifesaving first aid to a resident in need. Officer Stolz showed compassion and dedication by connecting a person living out of their car with much-needed resources that gave them a place to call home. As you can see, our officers are more than just “Cops.”
The Police Department also has some new exciting upcoming programs. First, body cameras are coming to the Department by the end of the year. These cameras will not only aid in transparency but also assist in our training efforts. Another addition coming to the department by the end of the year is bolawrap. Bolawrap is a less-lethal tool that wraps around the suspect and momentarily hinders their ability to move long enough for an Officer to handcuff the suspect. Our goal is always to use the minimal amount of force necessary in every encounter. The final new program I would like to mention is the return of a police motorcycle unit to aid in traffic enforcement. We will be sending an Officer to motorcycle school and upgrading the equipment on our existing motorcycle to meet today’s standards. Plan on seeing our motorcycle unit out and about in spring 2022.
We are proud of our Police Department and all the good works they do every day. And the success of the Police Department is only possible due to the strong support of the community. If you would like to learn more about any of these programs, please get in touch with Chief Dan Yourkoski or me.
More 2020 Census Data
We want to continue giving you more information from the 2020 Census. This week we highlight the growing diversity in populations in the region and in Normandy Park. Please take a look at this link and let us know what you see in the data

The SAMP is the blueprint for changes at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) to meet future forecasted demand.
