Normandy Park is Updating its Legislative Agenda

The City of Normandy Park is currently working on its legislative agenda for 2024. What is a legislative agenda? It is a council-approved list of state legislative priorities identified by the Councilmembers and staff as important issues for the City and our residents. This agenda is designed to be a simple and straightforward document that informs the public about our priorities. Once approved, it is distributed to various regional agencies and state elected officials to promote said priorities in the upcoming legislative session. While the agenda is not finalized, the following is a working list of topics that the City Council is considering asking the State to act on.

  1. Support Public Safety by supporting additional funding tools and resources from the State to promote Police Officer recruitment and retention. The City also supports the State expanding access to mandated training to get new officers on the street faster.
  2. Strengthen core salmon recovery programs by supporting State funding for repairing and replacing fish-blocking culverts that are locally owned.
  3. Support improvements on First Avenue (SR 509) in Normandy Park that focus on safety and mobility as it transitions to a local roadway.
  4. Look at revising the property tax cap to be connected to inflation, up to 3%, and population growth factors, so that local elected officials can adjust the local property tax rate to better serve their communities.
  5. Support greater access to the entire continuum of behavioral health services and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment.

The City’s 2024 Legislative Agenda should be finalized in November. If you have any other topics that you think should be considered or feedback on the ones above, please let me know.
