Council Meeting Round-Up
On Tuesday, August 9th, the City Council had its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights. We started the meeting by remembering Councilmember Earnest Thompson. The City Council approved the process that will be used to fill the Council vacancy with the passing of Councilmember Thompson. Elements of the proposed branding guide were discussed. The City Council provided feedback, and the city’s work on this project will continue. A special meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, September 20th, to discuss the next steps related to the proposed Civic Center. The City Council wants to hear from the public on this issue, so residents are encouraged to join us at 7:00 pm for this meeting. You can attend and participate in person or remotely. The link for joining the meeting remotely will be posted on the website as the meeting date approaches.

Remembering Councilmember Earnest Thompson – I regret to inform you that Councilmember Earnest Thompson passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022. He was a passionate supporter and strong advocate of Normandy Park. Before being elected to the City Council, he served on the Parks Commission, Planning Commission, SeaTac Airport Round Table (StART) committee, and more. He deeply believed in protecting the environment, promoting government transparency, and protecting the values that make Normandy Park special. He will be missed.

Please join us on Tuesday, August 2nd, 6:00-8:00 PM at City Hall Park for the annual National Night Out celebration. National Night Out is a national community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships. It is a great way to meet your Police Officers, City Councilmembers, and neighbors. In addition, we will have a BolaWrap demonstration along with signups for Paws on Patrol and a Women’s self-defense class. Free pizza, music, and family fun will be provided. We hope to see you there!

Information on the Proposition #1 Ballot Issue – As part of the August 2nd Primary Election, Normandy Park residents will be asked to vote on Proposition #1, which will authorize the city to issue a bond that will be used to construct a new Civic Center.
To help residents decide how they want to vote, I wanted to provide some informational resources that will help you learn more about the Civic Center Project and the Bond.

On Tuesday, July 12th, the City Council had its regular monthly meeting. Here are the meeting highlights. The City Council received its annual briefing from the South King County Housing and Homelessness Partnership (SKHHP). This presentation presented an overview of the 2023 plan and budget priorities for review. As a member of SKHHP, this also allows the City Council to provide feedback to SKHHP regarding the proposed plan before its adoption by the SKHHP Executive Board in August.
